The reality of living through more than thirty years of depression, primarily passive suicidality, and a brief bout of psychosis is that you either learn to swallow the “lumps” society hands you, or you build an identity strong enough to survive them. Since elementary school, I have been navigating a world that was not built for a neurodivergent, non-binary brain. Out of that friction, Sheena Monster became less of a nickname and more of a source of power: a refusal to save face, shrink myself into something easier to digest, or pretend that the shit society packages as chocolate is anything other than what it is.
Over the years, my work in behavioral health has become an extension of that refusal. I bring more than seventeen years of interdisciplinary experience across behavioral health, mental health, residential and community-based IDD/DDD services, vocational support, residential treatment, coordination and skills training for children, adolescents, and families, memory care, and hospice. My professional background includes registered Behavioral Health Technician status in Arizona, Arizona fingerprint clearance, CPR and basic first aid certification, and ongoing graduate training toward an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
While working in hospice home care, I also engaged in significant research and deepened my understanding of grief, mortality, family systems, memory, identity, and the ways people make meaning when life refuses to stay recognizable. Those experiences continue to shape how I understand care, transition, survival, and the quiet violence of systems that expect people to keep functioning while they are being asked to become someone new.
My academic and professional interests include bibliotherapy, somatic integration, radical acceptance, meaning-making, identity development, grief and transition work, and the kind of honesty that most systems try to sand down before it becomes inconvenient. I am a fierce advocate for LGBTQIA+ individuals and culturally diverse communities, not as a branding exercise, but because people deserve support that does not require them to amputate parts of themselves to be considered worthy of care. As a member of the queer community, a clinician-in-training, and someone who has spent years in the trenches of human service work, I look for the truth beneath the clinical tropes.
I write social commentary because I cannot unsee the connections. Patriarchal delusions, systemic deceptions, cultural violence, and democratic erosion are not abstract concepts; they are structures that shape bodies, families, choices, grief, identity, and survival. As an avid reader of everything from centuries-old prose to meta-analyses, a collector of oddities, and a spiritually attuned creator, I use The Social Deep to deconstruct the status quo. I am not here to play politics. I am here to name the things society works hardest to ignore.
Grounding happens in the wild. Northwestern Pennsylvania produced my rough draft, but the West and the South shaped and sharpened my perspective. When I am not deconstructing the world, studying, writing, or building The Social Deep, I am usually outside: walking, camping, fishing, or moving through the desert with my two canine children, Baloo, a Village Dog, and Raksha, an Arctic Shepherd mix who is not quite trail-ready yet, but is building stamina one step at a time.

This is the journey that made me who I am. It is still unfolding.

Meet the Pups

Ace (RIP): Allegedly Pitbull/Mastiff, hovered around 95lb; loyal to a fault, deeply compassionate, endlessly gentle, and one of my soulmates. A big soft teddy bear and an old soul, he was trusting, empathetic, steady, and loving in a way that felt too pure for the world that had him. The calm in my storm, he taught me how to love unconditionally, helped raise Baloo, and always seemed to know when I needed him most. Gone far too soon.

Baloo: Village Dog, roughly 100lb; painfully Intelligent, deeply expressive, stubborn, soulful, and far too aware for anyone’s convenience. Equal parts protector, shadow, old soul, and chaos supervisor; he continues to teach me new ways to communicate, maintain boundaries, listen beyond words, and understand trust as something built through mutual respect. Emotionally fluent, fiercely loyal, endlessly observant, and impossible to reduce to “just a dog,” Baloo is family, mirror, guardian, and one of the clearest proofs in my life that dogs understand far more than people give them credit for.

Raksha: Arctic Shepsky, projected to be roughly 75 to 80lb; fiercely bright, wildly expressive, affectionate, opinionated, maliciously compliant, and already far too clever for household peace. Equal parts snugglebug, storm cloud, little wolf, and determined problem-solver; she is constantly conditioning my patience while continuing to teach me new ways to communicate clearly, hold boundaries gently, and make room for softness inside the chaos. Sensitive, intense, curious, and deeply connected, Raksha is family, mischief, momentum, and a daily reminder that love can arrive with teeth, paws, attitude, and an entire weather system of feelings.
